Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5: 16 - 18)
Prayer: Christ, Child of God, Light to the nations, the way you have chosen us, filled us with your Spirit, with your presence, with your wisdom, the way you allow your goodness and compassion and grace to peek through our brokenness; these are gifts beyond measure, these are what make life truly alive. Be the light of our world during the celebration of your incarnation. Amen.

Concerns and Joys from Around the World:
• We give thanks for the release of three former Guantanamo detainees sent home this week to Bosnia, and pray for those still being held without trial for so many years.
• We pray for Gaza, where militant Palestinian groups are not planning to renew the ceasefire with Israel, which expires on Friday the 19th.
• We pray for Uganda, where the peace process with the Lord’s Resistance Army was suspended after LRA leader Joseph Kony refused to sign a peace agreement.
• We pray for the United States, where a report has found top U.S. officials introduced and supported the use of torture to interrogate prisoners.
• We pray for Greece, where protests in Athens (originally meant to protest police brutality) have become violent.
